'During the attack east of Echt St. Quentin, near Peronne, on September 2nd 1918, as officer in charge of the right half of the Support Company, 2/Lieut Ibbott rendered in valuable service to the right flank when it was held up by machine gun fire from the flank.  Immediately seizing the situation, he worked round the right flank under cover with a small party, and rushed two machine guns which were playing havoc with our troops.  He killed both machine gun crews and captured their guns.  This prompt and courageous action enabled our men to advance another 400 yards.'
Returned to Australia 26 May 1919 per 'Port Macquaire'

'For gallantry in action on August 30th 1918, near CLERY on the SOMME, when their battery was being heavily shelled and the ammunition dump in rear of No. 3 gun was struck by a shell exploding the ammunition and igniting the camouflage on the gun. These two men [IRWIN and 19635 C. MASSA], at grave personal risk, ran to the gun and extinguished the burning ammunition and camouflage, thus preventing further damage to ordnance and material. By their fine work they set an excellent example to the remainder of the battery.'
